Queen of the Felt: The Women Taking on the Irish Fields

One of the things I love most about being involved in the women’s game is watching players grow in confidence and then go out and start crushing the open fields. Lately, a few familiar faces have been doing exactly that.

A big shout out has to go to June Jenkins, who continues to prove she can compete with anyone. June has been quietly building an impressive record over the past couple of years and recently had another great run at the Dublin Poker Festival. She took down the Tuesday DPF Daily Turbo and also managed a 3rd place finish in the Ladies Event, which is a fantastic result across two very different tournaments.

It’s always brilliant to see players who come through the women’s events stepping into bigger mixed fields and holding their own. June is definitely one of those players who just keeps showing up, putting in the work, and getting the results.

There were also great performances from some of our own familiar faces.

Colette Murphy

Colette Murphy had a fantastic festival, taking down the Ladies Event at the Dublin Poker Festival and then going on another deep run in the Seniors Event, finishing 5th. That’s a serious week of poker.

Annette O’ Carroll

Annette O’Carroll also had a strong showing, running deep in the Deepstack event and finishing 7th, while Mary Seery picked up 4th place in the Beer Poker side event and has been killing it on the Irish fields.

Mary Seery

Results like these are exactly why I love seeing more women get involved in the game. The confidence builds, the experience grows, and before long they’re not just playing they’re competing and winning in some tough Irish fields.

And if the last few festivals are anything to go by, the women are only getting started.
