The Monster Wrap-Up Day 4
It’s the final countdown and the chances for players to qualify for Monday’s Main Event are beginning to dwindle. Those who have already bagged up a stack may be resting up and preparing themselves for the big day. But sometimes the hunger and drive of those who fight to the bitter end to have a chance at glory bring that mentality into the final. Personified by the presence of Andrew Toole at the festival who at the Glasgow event qualified for the Main Event in the mornings hyper event and battled through the day and night to lift the trophy.
The Monster Main Event Day 1E kicked off preceding’s and had 190 entries throwing down a stake in the hope of bagging up a stack. Those who filled their bags with the most chips were Christopher Fisher with 438,000, not too far behind was Brian Caffrey with 432,000 and Vincent Dynes who had 416,000.
Next up was the Irish Poker Tour €10k which saw 87 entries involved, challenging for a piece of the €10,440 prize pool. The field shortened as it came down to the final 3 who battled tooth and nail to secure the trophy. An IPT regular and player who brightens up the atmosphere of any table he is placed at, Tomas Flanagan took the lead in chips but in the end was pipped at the post by Wei Li who secured the trophy and took home €3,160. In 2nd place was Tomas Flanagan, who lifted €2,000 and in 3rd Janos Szabo, who took home €1,380.
The Monster Main Event Day 1F saw a staggering 267 entries signing up. One of which was our very own Brian Heideain, photographer extraordinaire and member of the IPT media team. Who qualified placing first in an online satellite on Party Poker. Unfortunately, Brian didn’t make it through to the final day but it was great seeing him at the event enjoying it from the players perspective. The largest stacks brought forward from this flight went to Dennis McGinley Sr with 744,000, then it was Kyle Slattery who had 496,000 and Dan Nakache bagging up 409,000.
In the High Roller Omaha 4 Card 7-Max there were 47 entries that signed up, resulting in the prize pool reaching €14,213. Some of the IPT’s big guns got involved with Paul Carr and Shane Keary ending up on the same table. Although the competition was tough, it was Cork native Brian O’Sullivan, who only showed up today and with one stake took the trophy and €4,920. Brian exclusively plays Omaha, mainly online but you could tell he relished the opportunity to test his vigor in the live setting. In 2nd was Fred Palomba who banked €3,210 and in 3rd was Killian Farrell lifting €2,070.
The NLH €5k was up next and had 46 entries in total which resulted in a prize pool of €5,520. Although others tried, there was one man hailing from Cuidad Real in Spain that was back to prove a point. After a late-night last night where he chopped up the pot, this evening he was taking no prisoners. Aaron Moreno took home the trophy and €2,000. In 2nd place was Ray Bryant who lifted €1,320 and in the 3rd was Roman Reznichenko who banked €880.
The Monster Main Event Day 1G starting at 9pm saw a further 100 join the mix. In the end it resulted in 16 players going through with a considerably higher stack than the rest of the field going to Costel Adragali who bagged up 739,000. With the next highest going to Simon Bashford who had 264,000 then was Patrick Galvin with 223,000.
Sunday, the day before the final, is sure to see many trying their hardest to qualify for the Main Event.
