The Monster Wrap Up – Day 5

I don’t even fold my laundry” and “If I was made of chocolate, I probably would have eaten myself this morning, I’m that good

Just some of the quips and anecdotes you hear around the felt. Well… these are the cleanest ones that come to mind. Sunday’s schedule was an action-packed whirlwind that was a joy to be part of for those who were fortunate to grace the Green Isle in Dublin.

The Monster Main Event Day 1H kicked off proceedings with 236 entries signing up to cement their position at the final table. From the field 28 players made it through to the Main Event Final. With some tactful and also aggressive play going on throughout the room, the atmosphere was electric. It shown in the stacks taken forward by the top 3. Who were Kevin Duffy with 778,000, Gavin Quinn with 710,000 and Paulo      Sabino Pimentel of Brazil with 600,000.

Next up was the Super-High-Roller One Dayer 8-Max that saw 39 entries on the roster. Playing for a prize pool of €20,590. As the pack widdled down the final table saw a very short stacked Dara O’Kearney in the mix. Although Dara fought hard to comeback he left the tournament in 4th. The top 3 were John Burke who took home €3,700. Then in 2nd was Emmett Mullin who banked €5,700, he was bested in the end by the unassuming Neil Higgins who took home the trophy and €8,690. Neil although happy with the victory had his sights set on Monday’s Main Event which he had already bagged up a stack for earlier in the week.

As the high roller was being crowned champ, the floor was alive with the action from the Monster Main Event Day 1i which saw a whopping 328 entries singing up. With the high number of entries there was a lot of chips in play, which for the most part was spread out amongst the 40 qualifiers who made it through to the final. But one man took forward the highest stack so far in the week and this was, Mark MacNabb who bagged up 902,000. The 2nd largest stack was with Gary McMahon who had 578,000 and Gerard Wynne had 504,000.

The final 2 tournaments were packed with excitement with the Omaha 4 / 5 Card Level of Each seeing 40 entries battle it out over a prize pool of €6,530. The drama unfolded at the final table, with IPT’s number 3 on the leaderboard taking a commanding lead in the final table. With the floor coming over to watch the action the atmosphere in the room was great to be a part of. Cheered on by the IPT’s number 1 Paul “Cookie Jar” Carr. For a minute it looked like Patrick Eagers may take the trophy but Shane Keary, fought hard to come out as chip leader in the heads up. The chopped it up and with Shane being chip leader he took home the trophy and the point towards the IPT leaderboard. Both banked €2,000 with Jai Pangrekar taking home €1,000 in 3rd place.

The last of the trophies up for grabs on the day was the NLH €5k         that seen 45 entries play for a prize pool of €5,400. From the start there was one man and one man only who had laser sharp focus pointed directly at the trophy. Having missed out in a head’s up earlier in the tournament, Sweden’s Noah Linder got his hands on the coveted IPT trophy, and it was great to see him bagging it after his disappointment earlier in the week. He also banked €1,750. In 2nd place was Michael Reilly, who took home €1,250 and in 3rd was Daniel Blake who lifted €950.

The Monster Main Event Day 1J which was the penultimate chance for people to qualify for the final saw 225 entries signing up. Aidan Quinlan brought forward the largest stack to the final from this flight with 590,000. Followed by George Shek with 439,000 and then Arnoldas Neimanas with 369,000.

With Monday’s hyper flight the last chance for players to qualify for the Main Event, the Monster is shaping up to be top off an already exhilarating festival put on by the IPT.
