Alex Coughlan Eliminated in 6th Place

Killarney Festival Opener
Level: 19 | Blinds: 30K-60K | BB Ante: 60K
Ave. Stack: 835,000 - Prizepool: €20,145 - Field: 5/167

Alex Coughlan moved all in and was called by Sean Coffey, who moved his 480,000 stack into the middle, Coughlan covering him.

Sean Coffey: KK
Alex Coughlan: AJ

Coughlan had run into Coffey’s kings, and no escape was provided by the Q9927 runout.

Coughlan was left with crumbs and was forced all-in in the big blind in the next hand, his 93 being usurped by Ryan Ashe’s J6 on the turn on Q3A610.

The remaining five players have taken a break to have deal discussions.

Always An Ace

Killarney Festival Opener
Level: 16 | Blinds: 10K-20K | BB Ante: 20K
Ave. Stack: 521,875 - Prizepool: €20,145 - Field: 12/167

Pavlo Havrylyshen jammed from the button, covering both players in the blinds, with James McDevitt making the quick call in the big blind for his 245,000 stack.

James McDevitt: KK
Pavlo Havrylyshen: A4

McDevitt had woken up with a monster in the big blind, and as the cards were turned over Shane Keary quipped “Unlucky James”, to which McDevitt replied “I know, I can feel it.”

As if he had cursed himself, the A was in the window on the A99 flop, and the 67 turn and river did not provide McDevitt with an unlikely reversal. He exits in 12th for €400, and former chip leader Illia Tsymbalist has also departed in 13th.

McCabe Cracks Two

Killarney Festival Opener
Level: 11 | Blinds: 2000-4000 | BB Ante: 4000
Ave. Stack: 99,404 - Prizepool: €20,145 - Field: 42/167

Short-stack Mossie Fitzgerald moved all in for 11,000, but his action was not seen by Rodrigo Diaz, who tried to raise to 12,000. The floor was called and the action was ruled a min-raise to 14,000. Stephen McCabe made the call in the big blind.

The A9J flop and K turn were checked through.

On the 8 river, McCabe led out with a bet of 18,000. Diaz took some time to think before moving all in for around 90,000. McCabe looked pained by the decision, but ultimately made the call.

Diaz said “Good call”, and turned over K10 for second pair kings. McCabe showed K8 for two pair, while Fitzgerald, who stated he had not looked at his cards, had 32.

Fleming Spikes Two-Outer to Bust Aikman

Level: 10 | Blinds: 1500-3000 | BB Ante: 3000
Ave. Stack: 74,553 - Prizepool: €20,145 - Field: 56/167

John Fleming and Lewis Aikman had become embroiled in a pre-flop raising war, that culminated in both players all-in for around 55,000 effective, with Fleming having the slightly covering stack.

Lewis Aikman: QQ
John Fleming: JJ

Aikman looked set for the double-up with the overpair, but the J94 flop propelled Fleming into the lead with a set of jacks, and the 3A turn and river did not alter matters.

Smyth’s Set Gets Rivered

Killarney Festival Opener
Level: 8 | Blinds: 800-1600 | BB Ante: 1600
Ave. Stack: 57,986 - Prizepool: €20,145 - Field: 73/167

Player of the Year leader Hugh Smyth recounted a hand to LPU that caused him some damage as he was heading out during the break.

After min-opening to 3,200 with 88and receiving one caller, Smyth flatted a three-bet from an opponent in the big blind to 8,500.

On the J85 flop, Smyth called a bet of 7,000 from his opponent with his set of eights.

On the 9 turn, his opponent checked. Smyth moved all in for 35,000 and got a call.

His opponent held AQ for ace-high with the gutshot, and promptly binked the 10 river. Smyth still has around 25 big blinds to work with, and will be hoping to spin it back up.
